Volunteers are a vital part of our team here at Magdalen. The skills
, experience and time that volunteers give freely
, is greatly valued by staff and trustees and is an important factor in the success and growth of Magdalen.
Because of the variety of work that we do
, the beautiful surroundings and the commitment to enhancing peoples' relationship with and understanding of sustainability,
(and perhaps because we're quite nice people)
, we attract interest from people from all walks of life, and from all over the world.
How you could help…
There are a whole host of things that you could do during your time at Magdalen, for example:
- Help out with our veg’ box scheme
- Keep Sally and Amy (our lovely Tamworths) fed and watered
- Help Liz and Janet feed the masses in the kitchen
- Give a hand with fundraising and publicity
- Help Catherine, Nick and Anne in the office
- Work on our sustainable projects - there are always a number of on-going projects needing that extra pair of hands
- Become Liz’s chief cake tester!
Volunteers can come in one day per week usually a Tuesday for horticulture work or Wednesday for more agricultural things. Otherwise volunteers are welcome for full weeks, usually Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm
, with an hour for lunch and of course tea breaks – however
, we are quite flexible and alternative working hours can be arranged if necessary.
To say thank you for your hard work
, we provide you with scrumptious
home cooked (local, organic and fairtrade - where possible) food
, made by our very own master chefs Liz and Janet and, if we've got room - somewhere to kip (if you're not from round here).
We welcome both local volunteers who volunteer on a day or weekly basis and
residential volunteers from far and distant lands.
Happy campers (and caravanners)…
We have a steady flow of residential volunteers,
who stay either in our funky caravans or in the warmer summer months on our beautiful eco-campsite. Our campsite boasts a range of tents
, a fire circle
, the ultimate composting loo with a view and under-floor heating (well it would be nice!).
Our short term residential volunteers generally come for a minimum of one week and can stay up three months (after a one week taster period).
Are you local?!
We are currently looking for longer term
, local volunteers to help in the following areas:
- Develop sustainable building projects around the site
- Out in the community with fundraising events
- Clerical/administration work
- Working on the farm - in particular helping with the care of our animals
- regular strimming and general outside tidying jobs
- maintenance and carpentry work
